Richmond Barracks
History
16 Franklin Street Richmond 7025
Richmond Barracks was built around 1830 and. although close to the centre of town now, when built, was actually outside the town boundaries. It is said that officers from Richmond Gaol lived in the army barraks style building which was later turned into two co-joined cottages. These cottages later became one single building which it now is today, and is National Trust listed.
At some stage in the building’s life, it fell into such a state of disrepair that demolishion was considered. Over the years there have been various additions to the building, mainly at the rear. At one time there were stables behind the main building but these were burnt to the ground. There is a large wine cellar under the accommodation unit known as "The Cellar".
We look forward to seeing you.
